To guide you on a more enjoyable wedding weight-loss and get-healthy journey, Bombshell Bride checked in with Elysa Silbersmith Dinzes, Director of Nutrition for health and wellness consultancy Plus One Health Management.  A recent bride herself, Dinzes emphasized thinking of yourself as a whole being trying to be your healthiest self, rather than just a number on the scale. Here is one way to do just that.

Power Your Wedding Diet with Visualization Exercises

Creative visualization is used to boost performance in everything from sports to business. It’s especially useful in treating addictions and for helping people tap into deep emotions and dreams, which can be used as rich fuel to power difficult changes. Dinzes uses visualization to help her clients discover their happiest life and learn how to attain it.

Here are some visualization techniques that you can use at home. You might think about recording them so that you can give your full attention to the exercise.

  • Find a quiet room where you can have 20 minutes to a half hour of uninterrupted peace.
  • Sit in a comfortable position. Allow your breath to slow and your shoulders to relax.
  • After you’ve given yourself time to feel relaxed and receptive, imagine yourself at your happiest. See yourself calm and centered, breathing deeply, and filled with happiness and gratitude for all that you have, your skin glowing and your eyes bright.
  • What did you look like? What were you wearing? What are you feeling? Where are you? What are you doing? Who’s around you? See each detail vividly.
  • Now ask yourself what kind of life you are leading to create such happiness. What actions are you taking; what kind of lifestyle are you leading in your vision to get you to that happy, comfortable place? Perhaps in your vision you know you run three miles a day, knew you eat healthfully, knew you make time to center yourself and enjoy your life.
  • Now ask yourself what actions in real life you could use to help create those same feelings. Some will be obvious, for example, the exercise and healthy eating, but others may not be so obvious, for example, allowing yourself a half hour of “unproductive” enjoyment each day of flipping through a magazine, taking a bath, or reading simply for pleasure.

What does all this have to do with weight loss and exercise?

A lot! Visions such as these can show you what is relevant to being healthy and well for you, says Dinzes. Creative visualization exercises take weight loss out of the realm of “diet” and “regimen” and into where it should be—things you do for health and happiness.
