Operation Beautiful’s Note for Khloe Kardashian

After a night class, 25 year old Caitlin Boyle was inspired to write “You are beautiful” on a post-it note and stick it to a bathroom mirror at her community college. She took a photo of the note and published it on her personal food and fitness blog.

Inspired by Caitlin’s sticky note, her readers did the same, starting a domino effect of uplifting words. On Caitlin’s newest blog, Operation Beautiful, you can see photos of similar motivational notes posted in locker rooms, on dollar bills, at the self-help section of bookstores and even on sidewalks.

Bombshell Bride: Why did you dedicate an entire blog to these inspiring post-it notes?

Caitlin Boyle: I began Operation Beautiful because I really believe that “Fat Talk” is detrimental to your personal happiness, your health, and your relationships. It’s a bad habit that we need to stop as society – I don’t want my future daughter to grow up thinking she’s fat just because she doesn’t look like an unattainable ideal in a magazine. I think that by posting notes, we’re helping others create a positive self-image. Also, I think the posters are really writing the notes to themselves, and it gives them a boost of confidence, too!

Bombshell Bride: Do you think “fat talk” becomes more prominent when women are under more stress, for example, during wedding planning?

Caitlin Boyle: I think if you are prone to “fat talk,” a special event will likely increase this behavior. Many women use fat talk as a coping mechanism when they are stressed or upset. I think it’s important to acknowledge that fat talk effects the way that you view yourself AND the way other people view you.

Bombshell Bride: Operation Beautiful was established to empower other women. What do you do to empower yourself?

Caitlin Boyle: I think posting Operation Beautiful notes actually empowers the note writer more than the person who finds the note. Our society has trained us to believe it’s not OK to say “I look great!” but it is socially acceptable to say “I look fat.” Why is that? We need to love ourselves more. It’s OK to feel beautiful.

Bombshell Bride: Khloe Kardashian recently announced to E-News that she’s gained 5 pounds since her wedding and will be getting back on her diet soon. What kind of post-it note would you make personally for Khloe Kardashian?

“If I could write Khloe an Operation Beautiful note, I would tell her, “You are good enough, the way you are. A scale can never say how beautiful you truly are.”

Caitlin Boyle: First of all, I want to say that this is ridiculous and that Khloe Kardashian has some sort of weight loss product (like a shake or something? I think) and it’s probably all a marketing thing.  This sort of stuff makes me want to scream. I wish celebrities would talk more about cardiovascular fitness or blood pressure than a number on a scale. If I could write Khloe an Operation Beautiful note, I would tell her, “You are good enough, the way you are. A scale can never say how beautiful you truly are.”
