Running Bride Says “I Do” on Las Vegas Marathon Course

You’re getting married on the course of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon in the Run-Thru Wedding. Tell be a bit about that decision.

MK: Dan and I didn’t want to have a big wedding. Our families are spread out around the country and we didn’t want to wait a year while planning a big event. We wanted to get married in Vegas and when we started looking at dates, December 6 was our first choice. Dan manages a specialty running store (Run AZ) and remembered seeing the flyer for the Las Vegas Marathon. When he suggested it, I knew that was where we had to be married. A Run-Thru Ceremony? It is perfect for us! Being married during the marathon is going to feel so much more special to us than going to a chapel or having a private ceremony. We are going to be surrounded by thousands of runners, and many other couples who are enjoying the experience with us.

We committed to each other a long time ago, and that commitment is not going to change on Sunday. We will continue to grow as a couple throughout life’s adventures, and this wedding/half-marathon adventure will be a great starting point for our marriage. For the Run-Thru Ceremony, I had to do very little planning. The event coordinators are amazing and have done a great job of making us feel special and excited about the day. What matters to me on race day is having Dan by my side and making our commitment official.

Can you talk a bit about your wedding dress?

MK: I am so excited about my wedding dress! I purchased a white WonderGirl Dress from SkirtSports. They make an entire line of amazing women’s fitness clothing so I had a lot of options. It’s made for running so I will be perfectly comfortable and look fantastic, sexy and beautiful at the same time! I am borrowing a pearl necklace and a tiara from a friend of mine. And the best part—my sister turned my hand-held water bottle into a bouquet! We picked out poinsettias in red and gold from the craft store. Then she worked her magic and attached the flowers to my water bottle. It looks so amazing and beautiful. As for my wedding dress, I had my choices narrowed down to three different outfits from SkirtSports and put it to a vote amongst my friends. The WonderGirl Dress won hands down. (It was my first choice too, but I’m a girl and I gotta have input on my wardrobe!)

Epilogue…

Mary and Dan were happily married on the course of the Las Vegas Marathon on December 6.

MK: The day was wonderful. I felt beautiful and special. Having our friends there to celebrate with us was awesome. We got to the wedding site early enough to enjoy a glass of champagne with our friends before the ceremony. The pastor had very beautiful words to share, and we exchanged vows and our rings as we would have in a more formal setting.

We enjoyed all the support along the rest of the course and everyone loved our wedding outfits, complete with my water-bottle bouquet! After the race we enjoyed a champagne brunch with everyone who came to celebrate with us….before retiring to our room for the night!
