One Stride at a Time for May 2010 Bride
My first race was a 4 miler. I signed up for it because I read a lot of race recaps on blogs and thought they sounded like fun, even though I was afraid because I’m not the fastest or most fit runner out there. I happened to search for races in my area, and this race looked really interesting because it was through our town’s zoo. I registered just 5 days before! At the race itself, I had to tell myself that there was no shame in walking if I had to–what mattered was finishing. I took a few short walk breaks and finished the 4 miles running in 41:14. I had so much fun with the whole experience that I immediately went home and signed up for an 8K and a 5K!

Bombshell Bride: You mentioned you took a break from fitness when you were short for time and stressed while studying for the bar exam. As your wedding gets closer, how do you plan to handle the stress this time?
Brie: I honestly did not take a break from fitness while studying for the bar exam. I actually worked out a lot during the process! After sitting down behind a stack of books all day, it always felt great to hit up an intense spin class or do some relaxing power yoga. I’m proud that I was able to make it to the gym five days a week during that period of my life!
I did gain a little bit of weight while studying for the bar, and I attribute that to being a little bit lax with my eating habits. I’d always religiously tracked my calories and weighed and measured every single bite, and I just didn’t have the time or energy for that anymore. In these last few months before the wedding, I’m trying to wean myself off calorie counting and learn what a healthy meal looks like and when to say no. I want to internalize those things so that when I don’t have time to track and measure, I can still maintain my weight.
